Qualifying for the next World Cup is now in heated action across the globe as countries and their supporters anxiously race to join South Africa in the finals.
A huge crowd of expats drawn from far corners of the world living in Shanghai watched the latest batch of World Cup Qualifiers broadcast live in the Big BAMBOO Bar near to Nanjing Road/Jingan Temple last Saturday night (6th June 2009).
Qatar 0-0 Australia: Draw books Australia’s place in the FIFA 2010 World Cup!
Following their arch rivals Japan an hour earlier, Australia became only the second nation in the world to secure a place in next year's World Cup in South Africa when they got the point they needed to qualify in a hard fought goalless draw with Qatar. Expat Aussie fans were celebrating with tears of joy and excitement. “We’re extremely proud of our country’s Socceroos early qualification to the FIFA 2010 World Cup, and I’m a bit overwhelmed with excitement looking forward to the actual cup next year. Even being in a foreign country, my heart was still beating hard when the final whistle was blown and the result we needed was finalized.” Jason said after the raucous celebrations settled down following the match.
Kahlenberg gives Sweden big blow: Denmark’s first victory over Sweden since 1996
The early goal from Kahlenberg gave Denmark a historic 1-0 victory in next World Cup Qualifier, breaking a 25 year hoodoo on Swedish soil for the Danes, which leaves Sweden in a complicated position in fourth place of the standings. Hundreds of Danish expat fans clad in red jerseys erupted in celebrations of their country’s first win over Sweden since 1996.
